Test Driving the IC37

Article by: James Scanlon

AB Marine and GORI are proud to be part of the team responsible for NYYC’s new one design racer, the Melges IC37. The Mark Mills design, which completed its test sails in early May has received stellar feedback from all industry pros involved in the seamless assembly and sea trials.

Having a boat perform perfectly, fresh off the assembly line is no small feat and requires uncompromising attention to detail from all parties involved. From the build by Westerly Marine, to rig design and sail plan drafted by North Sails and Southern Spars, the success of the IC37 represents the integration of excellent work from all aspects of the project team. The boat is powered by a GORI folding propellor, supplied by AB Marine.

The GORI race performed perfectly under power, meeting the specifications of the boat’s designers perfectly, providing maximum thrust. The GORI race propellor did not disappoint in the sailing portions of the trials. With the engine in neutral, the prop did not auto rotate, demonstrating the fact that the GORI race truly pulls ZERO DRAG moving through the water. Considering the attention to detail and level of perfection achieved by designers and builders anything less than the level of performance provided by the Gori would be a disservice to the completeness of the boat.

With it’s sea trials completed, the IC37 is ready to serve in next years NYYC Annual, and from there, hopefully help grow corinthian one design racing around the world.
