Alex Thomson Going Green in bid to win Vendée Globe

GORI Race selected for new IMOCA 60.

Britain’s Alex Thomson, who is seeking to be the first non-French sailor to win the iconic solo round-the-world Vendée Globe race in 2020-21, is building his new IMOCA 60 yacht with an electric motor, charged by onboard solar panel technology. Second in the 2015-16 edition, Thomson has partnered with Oceanvolt to integrate the multi-million pound boat with a electric motor, GORI Race propeller and batteries, designed to withstand the demands of a grueling round-the-world campaign, whilst continuing to promote sustainability and still sail fast to win.

When you want to win & there is no compromising, the zero drag GORI Race is the choice. It does not spin at any speed under sail, even at 40+ kts. The GORI gives optimum thrust ahead & reverse by virtue of its precision engineered blade shape, profile & blade teeth, and it does not rely solely on centrifugal force to open the blades as many other folding & feathering props do.

All GORI propellers including the Race, 2 & 3-blade propellers can be used for regeneration & recharging of the batteries if necessary, or can be left in neutral as the engine manufacturers want & will not spin under sail even with offset down angle shafts or saildrives.
