How a propeller works

A propeller acts just like a screw.  When a screw’s spiral thread surface rotates, the turning force converts into a pushing force that drives the screw into wood.  Just like the screw, the propeller’s hub and radiating blades set at an angle forms a spiral that when rotated will push water away propelling the vessel forward.
